Our graphic designer, Christian, and his family do a fun/themed photo session every year. This year they did 1950s Christmas, based off of an old Sears catalog. So creative!

Jen + Scott | Thursday Club Wedding Video Highlight

Some weddings are such a pleasure to work. I love when it's obvious how much a couple loves each other and when a family comes together so gracefully to celebrate it.

Jen and Scott were married at the Thursday Club in Point Loma. They hired us for Photography long before the big day, but we're quite set on video. I remember emailing with Jen while I was in New York two weeks before their wedding about how to make it work for them. I was SO happy when she told me they had decided to go for it.

Her email this morning made my day: "We LOVE it! And we are sooo happy that everything worked out and we even have a video to remember our wedding day!! Thanks for helping me see we needed one! It is a blessing!"

Some things are just too special not to be documented. Congrats again Mr. & Mrs. Martin

Whitney + Brian | The Dana on Mission Bay

This will be my third and final post about Whitney and Brian's wedding (Wedding & Engagement) because their video is finally here!! I am so happy for them and the family they're creating, but a little sad to officially be done working on their wedding.

Whitney gave us complete trust to do whatever we wanted when it came to her video, including a little bit of force to do it in the first place. We gave her a lot of exciting surprises along the way and we're all beyond thrilled that they loved everything we did to make her day amazing.

Her email response to this highlight totally made my day: "That is soooo awesome! I love this video, I loved that day, I love life."

Their wedding was filled with love and focus on their relationship. Almost all of their vendors were close friends and professionals in the industry, so the whole day flowed seamlessly. Eric Scott Gold made sure that everyone had an excellent time and even set up fun, surprise reception lights for when the party really got started. My favorite part was Whitney's surprise voice-over message that we made with her for the father-daughter dance.

Whitney used a lot of our wedding videos to help her plan, so I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you stole a few ideas from her too.

Thank you to the Bob Hoffman team (Bob, Tara, Tom, Jonathan, Bryan & Tristan) for working so hard to make my friends wedding great :)

Exquisite Weddings Launch

Mary & John's Wedding Film

A few weeks ago a man named John came into our office to transfer his 8mm film to DVD. He was married in 1961 in Los Angeles, CA. At that time film cameras were new and very few people had them. Well, one of his weddings guests did! They filmed his wedding with their "new" camera, tucked the footage away in a closet and completely forgot about it......for 50 years!

In cleaning their house many years later, the now 70 year old friends found the footage and mailed it to John in La Jolla. The note read "found this in the closet, thought you might want to see it." John brought it to and we transferred it to DVD and added sound so that he could watch his wedding video for the first time.

The moments of their wedding day were forever captured. It's like being in a time machine. She hugs her mother, who surely isn't alive today. There are shots of their car, their friends, their hometown, her dress, the flowers....everything. They look so in love. This video is so romantic and amazing, I can't even believe it exists. Nobody was able to enjoy it for 50 years, which almost makes it sweeter. John took it home to his wife, children and grandchildren to enjoy and told them stories of all the people in the video. He called a few days later to thank us, and of course I couldn't help from choking back tears. It was the most sincere thank you I'd ever heard.

Do you wish your grandparents had a video like this? I certainly do. Nothing makes us happier than having clients come back to us 2, 5, 10 or even 20 years later to thank us and share their stories of what their wedding video means to them. And the award for most animated and excited bride goes to .....ALYSSA! Oh my gosh, going through these pictures is so much fun. These two have smiles on their faces constantly. Alyssa & Jose escaped thunder clouds and heat and had an amazingly fun and exciting wedding day.

My favorite part was most definitely their surprise dress change/hip-hop first dance, complete with a fake "mess up" by DJ Mike Farmer. Definitely unique and exciting first dance photos. So glad it was captured on video because these two have some serious moves!

Whitney + Brian | The Dana on Mission Bay

Whitney is a friend of mine and I had such a great time wedding planning with her. I'm truthfully a little bit sad that her wedding has passed, but I'm obviously SO happy for them!

Probably within three weeks of their engagement the biggest parts of wedding planning were taken care of. She picked The Dana out of a magazine and she didn't spend too much time making decisions. She told me "when I know I like something, done, NEXT...this is fun," and so only the details were left for the next several months.

For their wedding we did photography, videography and a special surprise "I love you" voice over recording to her parents that Eric (Classy Event Group, DJ) played during her father/daughter dance song.

Thank you Whitney, Brian & family for letting Bob, Tara, Tom, Bryan, Jonathan and me (and Eric of course) play such an important and special role in your wedding day. We love you ;)

We invited our intern, Erin, to join us for her first San Diego wedding industry event! It was a great party for a fantastic organization. Here's what she thought of it:

It is true that two people in love should not be deprived from the chance to unite and experience a marriage of a lifetime. This idea is the goal and practice of the non profit organization, Wish Upon A Wedding. Their heart-warming services lend a hand to couples facing tragedy, terminal illness, financial misfortunes, and other life altering circumstances.

On Tuesday evening the organization hosted a mingling event at the gorgeous Destination Events Center in downtown La Jolla. It was a classy atmosphere with captivating flower arrangements, great music, and delicious food, all topped off with a breathtaking sunset.

This occasion displayed such a powerful message towards helping fulfill the hopes and dreams of soul mates facing unexpected setbacks in life. Throughout the event vendors, designers, florists, DJs, photographers, videographers, editors planners and other industry professionals all expressed their support by volunteering to be wish granters to Wish Upon a Wedding couples in need. The experience and their generosity was very admirable.

Michelle & Travis are high school sweethearts and an adorable couple. Their wedding was held at the Bahia ponds and William D. Evans for the reception. Michelle & Travis met before their beautiful ceremony. For the reception, Michelle told us that she fell in love with the stained glass ceiling of the boat and Travis loved the bar, so we took extra care to incorporate both elements into their photos. Tina and Eric were married on a perfectly sunny afternoon at Cuvier Park in La Jolla, overlooking the ocean. It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony preformed by Bethel of Ceremonies by Bethel. Some of their closest friends flew out to join them. Their reception was held at Bistro Pazzo in La Jolla. If you know him or his now wife, Tina, I'm sure you can imagine that we had a great time!

Caroline + Scott | Grand Tradition Estate

We met Caroline and her mom at a Bridal Bazaar and we loved them right away. Caroline actually came back later in the show and booked us on the spot! We encourage this type of behavior, although we know it's rare :)

Caroline and Scott met in college and had an incredible romantic wedding on really the most perfectly beautiful San Diego day! We did their entire wedding with two cameras, plus some surprise third camera footage from Tara and her little new HD cam!

Here is their romantic wedding day highlight from the Grand Tradition! I shouldn't spoil the video, but I definitely got a bit emotional seeing the carriage ride in with her dad. That really is magical. I loved seeing their parents watching them during the ceremony and Caroline & Scott "dancing" with grandma via skype at the reception. Caroline is a cheer coach and all her girls were there to cheer them on at various parts of the reception. Adorable.

Kathryn + Nathan | Same Day Edit | Estancia La Jolla

We call our same day edits the "Mad Dash" because we literally dash around like mad (behind the scenes of course) at your wedding, editing the ceremony and making sure everything is perfect to show your ceremony highlights at your reception.

Kathryn's mother and sister hired us for this as a complete surprise to the couple and everyone in the room! Once we were done and 110% satisfied with what we made for them, we were ready to show it! After dinner we started off by playing a photo montage of the two of them growing up, and then of them together. Just as the presentation came to what looked like an end, we surprised the crowd with beautiful shots of Kathryn & Nathan's wedding.

As we stood nervously in the back of the room a guest next to me was crying and laughing. I'm pretty sure she had no idea I was part of team behind the showing, but it cracked me up as she said "SHUT UP, OMG, is this live? Where is this coming from? How did they do this?" and then when it ended she said "OMG, Bob, you're totally hired for my wedding." I considered her tears and comment a major success on our part - thanks girl in the blue dress :)

Here is the same day edit or "Mad Dash" as it was shown on their wedding day. Thank you to Kathryn's mother and sister, Gloria and Gretchen, their incredibly helpful and patient coordinator, Jamie of Ever After Events and Laurel at Estancia for helping us make this magical moment happen for them.

We met Leica at a Bridal Bazaar just two months before their wedding. When we met them in our office we were blown away by how nice they were and Bob was excited to work with them at the newly remodeled Bali Hai!

Their morning ceremony was bright and colorful, a really joyous occasion. The Barongs (traditional formal Filipino shirt) worn by the groomsmen looked great in the sunlight, accented by the purple of the bridesmaids dresses and flowers. They ended their celebration with a gorgeous dove release and boated off to their new life together :)

Leica was actually named after a high end old school film camera! Her father enjoyed photography and loved the camera enough to name his daughter after it! Our photographer, Bryan has a Leica camera sticker on his iPhone....we thought it was an ironic coincidence.

Nicola + Josh | Whirlwind Wedding

Nicola is one of my best friends. Her fiance (now husband), Josh, is in the Marines and decided to fly out and surprise her at work. What he didn't tell us was that he wanted to marry her while he was here! She had been engaged since January and was planning a 2012 wedding, so nothing had been set yet. I got a call Monday evening and she said "what is your company doing on Thursday? I'm getting married. Can you do photo and video?!?!" With the help of their parents and friends they put together a great celebration in only 4 days and even had time to squeeze in a fun engagement session. Their video is almost done and I can not wait for them to see it, I'm so proud of the fun things we did for her. The words "just make it great, I trust you" = music to our ears :)

The engagement photos were done at Presidio Park (Josh's idea, and a good one!) and the wedding was held at Nicola's parents house in Spring Valley with a gorgeous video of the Sweetwater Reservoir.

We just love working at the US Grant. There is so much history in that building (100 years to be exact) and it always looks elegant and beautiful, made for a truly classy bride.

This year marks the third annual Wedding Showcase and the best of the best in the San Diego wedding community were there to showcase the newest and coolest trends.

Kethurah + Akshay | San Diego Indian Wedding

Well I think Maria is a hero! Kethurah and Akshay decided to get married and gave Maria one weeks notice to plan! Maria did it with grace and pulled off a fabulous celebration! Whitney + Brian, Sunset Cliffs Engagement

Whitney & Brian are getting married!! Whitney is a close friend of mine and I'm getting a huge kick out of helping her through the planning process. I'm amazed at how fast everything is coming together for them and the low-stress approach they're taking to everything, even with Brian being in San Francisco. I'm positive that their wedding will be fun and carefree, a real celebration of their relationship.

For their engagement photos we met at Sunset Cliffs right next to where they had their first date and ended the session on Harbor Island with the beautiful San Diego skyline as a backdrop, just like their first kiss a few years back. Whitney wore grey with plumb accents in her scarf for the daytime photos to match her wedding colors.

In just 5 months I'll be posting their wedding photos!

Kami + Christian - SURPRISE PROPOSAL SHOOT

Some days I just absolutely love my job.

Christian contacted us a few weeks ago to do a photo session with him and his girlfriend, Kami, while she was visiting him from Utah. As the session drew near Bob and I started to suspect he was going to propose during the shoot, but we didn't say anything. Sure enough as Bob and Bryan were setting up and Kami finished getting ready, Christian took me aside and pulled out a ring box!!!! He asked me to pick a great spot and we arranged a signal (talk about pressure). I tried to keep my composure, but I was definitely shaking, over-talking with excitement and fighting back tears. I don't want to say too much more or spoil the surprise in what you're about to watch, but I'm SO SO excited for Kami and Christian to see this slide show and share this special moment with their families!

About the video: Tara (Bob's wife), being the genius that she is, sent me a text message during the shoot. I normally ignore my phone on the job, but she called and texted so many times I thought it was a serious flood/fire/death emergency. Her text read: "I put the video camera in the car just in case he proposes to her :)" At that point the video camera was too far away and I couldn't (quickly) find a way to get the camera. But her text came just at the right moment. SO, I essentially forced Bryan into switching from photo to video mode on his camera while Bob and I snapped away. SURPRISE!

Thank you both for allowing us to take part in such a special and important moment. This was a first for us!

Celebrating Coordinators And Event Designers

Suzanne of Shewanders Photography came to us a few weeks ago with an idea she had for a party to celebrate and thank some of our fabulous San Diego wedding consultants and event designers. They so rarely get the thank you they deserve and we love Suzanne too much to ever say no to her. So, amidst preparing for the Bridal Bazaar, editing and booking for summer we found ourselves co-sponsoring a party. Suzanne has a super cool, chic studio in Mission Hills that used to be a rug factory and is perfect for backyard parties. Although, the average backyard party doesn't have a fire spinner.....!

Also, as it turns out (much to my embarrassment) that in the making of the party we discovered that I'm afraid of sparklers. Watch and laugh:

Educational Enrichment Systems, Inc. (EES) is a non-profit child development agency that has been offering early education programs to low-income, working families of San Diego County since 1979. They have 24 locations in San Diego and support over 1,300 local children

We are thrilled to be able to work so closely with such an essential community organization, plus the kids are always adorable and fun to photograph/videotape!

This year, Bill Walton and his wife Lori joined EES in their annual holiday gift giving. Thanks to EES and their generous community sponsors, all 1,325 EES children excitedly took home a toy this holiday season.

Christina & Scot are getting married in Indian Wells next June and came out to San Diego for a destination engagement. Christina and I decided on Coronado (one of my favorite places in San Diego) for their session.

We were all really lucky and picked a gorgeous day in between two rainy days for their engagement.

Christina and Scot had a great time....

they were treated to a surprise "congratulations" song and dance by the Hotel Del bellman....

they enjoyed the ocean at sunset...

and we enjoyed hanging out with them!!

We even had time for a Christmas photos. I love how the Del looks at this time of year.

From “in” colors and dresses to what’s hot in decor, videographers witness trends come and go. No matter what your style, be it traditional, romantic, eco-conscious, DIY or trendy, you want to be sure your wedding day is recorded! Ask any bride to recount her special day and she’ll say it just flew by. Regardless of this years trend, when you watch your wedding video ten, twenty or fifty years from now, there is nothing like seeing and hearing every moment of the most important day of your life. So, of course times change, but having every detail of your wedding recorded on video lasts forever, and what’s trendier than that?

Emerging 2010 Wedding Trends

1. High Definition (HD) has been available for weddings since 2007. With more couples owning HDTVs and Blu-Ray players, it’s becoming accessible to the average couple. HD is six times sharper than standard and actually provides a more flattering image (plus, any great videographer will edit away your blemishes anyhow). Soon, all videographers that haven’t already, will make the transition, making HD/Blu-Ray the norm in the wedding business. So, upgrade now and be thankful for the amazing quality later, because why wouldn’t you want the best that’s available in 2010? Since HD and Blu-Ray are still relatively new technologies, expect most videographers to charge $400 to $1,000 for the upgrade.

2. Shorter Videos Couples nowadays are asking for shorter videos. With our fast moving 2010 lifestyles, people are busy and don’t always have time to watch a full wedding video every time friends and family come over. So, many couples are opting for a highlight style video instead, or for both a full-length and shorter version. Short and sweet keeps the absolute best moments of the day in one short place.

3. Video Save-The-Date, Invite or Thank You's Similar to cake styles and flower arrangements, videography is constantly evolving with the times. For the eco or trendy/techie bride, wedding websites are in, and environmentally conscious. Video save-the-dates are equally cool, but also classy and unique with the added benefit of saving trees (and some green). So, why not spice up your wedding website with a video save-the-date, invite or thank you? Video clips can include information to replace the traditional paper inserts. Directions, hotel accommodations and registry instructions can be displayed through video graphics. Plus, you and your fiancé can show your ceremony and reception venues, give guests tips about what to do in town and detail how to RSVP. You could also include a montage of family photos, interviews with the bridal party and the story of how you first met. After the wedding a special “thank you” video can also be uploaded and emailed to your guests.

4. Incorporate Video into the Event One way to spice up the night is to incorporate video into the event! Love to party? Videographers will capture every special moment as it unfolds and project it onto a big screen. This is called a live-feed. From your dad’s tearful toast to the impromptu groomsman break dance sesh, every guest will feel included and at the front of the action.

5. Share Moments From Your Ceremony Surprise everyone at the reception by sharing the most beautiful moments of your wedding ceremony, freshly edited, and ready for viewing only hours after the ceremony. Videographers call this a same day edit or "mad dash." Your videographer shoots your pre-ceremony and ceremony as usual and has an assistant quickly edit the footage into a short highlight to play for your guests at the reception. It can be included with a love story, old home videos and pictures. Why it’s so cool: Your guests can’t see your faces, and oftentimes can’t clearly hear your vows during the ceremony, and you definitely don’t want all of them in the room with you while you get ready! These edits allow your guests a behind the scenes look at your relationship and your wedding day. Plus, its super romantic and bound to earn a tearful applause.

6. Videos for Your iPhone In 2010 we can hold technology in the palm of our hands, literally. So, why shouldn’t you be able to show your wedding video on the go? 2010 brides are asking for their highlight videos, re-cap and full length videos in a version compatible for showing on their smart phone or uploading to Facebook. Viewing your wedding online is the ultimate in convenience and portability.

All in all, find a way to navigate video into your budget, because sound and movement, professionally recorded by your videographer, can’t be preserved by photography. You should even consider your wedding video an investment for the future. Years from now you’ll watch it with your children. As you laugh and cry, you’ll reminisce about the awesome trends of 2010 and your amazing day! You will want to keep your video forever and it will become your most prized possession.

It seems like their engagement session was just yesterday...time flies so fast! Jeanette and Mark were really lucky. We all crossed our fingers and it miraculously it did not rain in Temecula, even as it poured in parts of San Diego and LA! They had a beautiful sunset ceremony and an incredible party. No wedding is ever 100% perfect. Even with all the planning in the world and the best planner in town (which I highly recommend hiring), something is bound to come up that wasn't in the plan. The key is to roll with it and enjoy yourself.

This clip is the perfect example! When Shana throws her bouquet it hits the chandelier and gets stuck! The best part is that her MC actually warned her to be careful beforehand (listen carefully). The wedding party got a complete kick out of it and we thought it was pretty funny too. I love that Tom was able to get a close-up of the bouquet stuck up there.

Quite often the unplanned moments of a wedding reception are the most memorable...good thing they hired us to capture it on video :)

Joanne's cousin worked for BHVP a few years ago and having worked for their extended family many times we knew it would be a fun wedding! Joanne and Ernesto had a romantic and traditional ceremony in Santa Monica and then headed down to Newport Beach to cruise around for their reception.

They were certainly not camera shy, plus they're pretty darn cute together. I absolutely love their video. Here's one of my favorite clips from their reception where you can see a portion of their photo session at Santa Monica Pier and all the details on the cruise ship.

Rachel was my college roommate/best friend. When she came down from LA for a visit, we were obviously more than happy to take these pictures for them! Rachel let Bob select Rose Canyon for beautiful nature shots while the wild flowers were still in season. We hung out for a few hours, Gianni carried Rachel across the creek for a quick photo-op and they danced together in the flower fields, making taking their pictures a sinch. I approve :)

Today, Jonathan, one of our Social Event videographers and editors is working on a project for Pala Casino. We also have a corporate video department that does website and promotional videos for San Diego businesses. Jonathan is creating an employee appreciation video and is currently working in Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

This is my office door decorated with thank you letters and holiday cards from past clients and some of our favorite San Diego vendors. It reminds us each day how important and special our work is to our clients.

WOAH! These are all our wedding and event videos archived on tape from 2004-current. Everything from 1983-2003 is still on file, but not in my office...it just isn't big enough!

What Brides and Vendors are Saying...

...about videography
I posed the question to a group of about 100 wedding industry professionals and married couples/MOBs, "Did you have a videographer at your wedding? Why or why not?" The answers I received blew me away with their positivity. I was moved by all the phenomenal things people had to say about our industry, because to be honest, we don't always get a lot of credit, plus most brides don't see the value in what we do until its already done.

Here are clips of what they had to say:
Couple: Our short recap video is awesome to show to friends and family when we don't have time to watch the entire day
Bride/Coordinator: I didn't want video at first, but I am a huge advocate for video now. I consider it an investment piece for the future.
Bride/Coordinator: Find a way to navigate video into your budget. There are just certain things that photography can't capture...the quiver of your voice as you recite your vows? Priceless!
MOB: Video has saved my daughters marriage more than once! Every time they have a fight they pull out their wedding video and remember why they got married.
Bride/Coordinator/Mom: Your children will thoroughly enjoy watching your video. It is such a joy to watch it with them and answer their questions about our family and my dress. They say "mommy, you're so pretty."
Groom/DJ - The people in your wedding wont always be in your life, having a video to remember them is really special.

...about what they would have done differently
The brides and grooms that answered this question said they would have spent MORE money on their venue and flowers and LESS money on the cost of chair rentals (keep in mind all of these couples had a coordinator and videographer and DID NOT regret it). The two regrets were not hiring a coordinator sooner and really knowing that cheaper doesn't mean better.

...about wedding coordinators
You're only engaged once (hopefully), so you should enjoy it, not stress! The couples we spoke with spoke the world of their coordinators who helped them with everything including:
personal advice on their relationship, telling vendors "no," reminding them when to pay for what, negotiating contracts, their timeline and their budget. In the end they all agreed that having a wedding planner saved them time, money and stress!

Life-Cycle Events

OMG has it been a busy 2010 so far. Being in the event industry has some ups and downs. "UPs" include having the distinct privilege of capturing special moments and creating beautiful keepsakes for families to literally treasure forever...we make "most prized possessions!" That is seriously amazing to me!

But, for BHVP, being in the event industry isn't all happy and cheery best-day-of-your-life videos. We also do funerals. Funerals are definitely not as fun to do. We have little time to prepare for them, throwing our entire schedule off balance and they are very sad and uncomfortable. They immediately jolt us into the exact opposite of what we normally do. We are present for the worst day, rather than the best day of our clients lives. We really come full circle here.

So many of our clients (and brides) might wonder why the heck anybody would pay for or want a funeral recorded, but for us it is simple. Life cycle events should be remembered. When you are under stress, pressure and adrenaline you can't remember everything that is said. Is the speech your dad gives at your wedding more important than the speech his best friend gives at his funeral? Would you want to remember the eulogy any less?

Over the past month we have videotaped six funerals and memorials. It isn't something we like to do, but it is part of our duty to the San Diego community and our clients.

How many weddings have you worked at? (for
videographers/photographers this is more important than
"Have you worked at my venue before?")
What do your DVD covers look like?
How do I receive the DVDs?
Regular mail? UPS? Pick them up in person?
What is your travel fee?
(It is customary for vendors to charge a travel
fee and/or flight/hotel costs if
your wedding is not with in their city/county).

Jen found us from our ad on theknot.com. Videography was important to her because some of her family were unable to make the wedding. Plus she understood the value of having such a precious celebration on video for years to come. She and Jason stayed at The Bay Club hotel and had their ceremony at Point Loma Nazarene University where Jen went to school. Everybody feared rain, but as it turned out, the pre-rain clouds made for one of the most beautiful sunsets we have ever captured on video! Following the ceremony guests enjoyed the sunset with a group photo and toast in place of a cocktail hour. Their Reception took place at Tom Ham's Lighthouse.

Jen chose our Timeless Memories package and we captured the day with two cameras at the ceremony and one at the reception.

Wohoo SD ABC Meetings!

Every month we meet with pretty cool SD wedding professionals. Aside from the typical meeting stuff we enjoy great food, great company and a much needed break from the work week. Every month it helps me remember how incredibly lucky I am to live in San Diego!!!

This month our meeting was hosted by the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. It's different from the typical wedding venue, but its great for a rehearsal dinner or a sports themed event, and its bound to impress locals and out of town sports fans. As usual though there are plenty of great things to share. Check it out (sorry the pictures aren't the best, iphone in an awesomely lit room = dark photos)

Intuition

Alya and Santos didn't really want video at their wedding, but Alya's father did, so they booked us over the phone and picked our smallest package for their outdoor July wedding.

A few months passed and everything was double confirmed and ready to go,but, the Friday before the wedding, around 7pm, Alya's planner called me on my cell phone. Alya and Santos were still hesitant about video. They didn't want us to be in the way, but they knew they wanted a great documentary of their day. Alya, Santos and Alya's father knew that what they were planning was so fabulous and romantic and downright beautiful that they didnt want to miss any part of it. Could they hire a second camera person for the reception?

OF COURSE. We generally do receptions with one camera, but we never turn down the opportunity to shoot with two cameras...it only improves the video to have more footage.Magic happened and we took care of it. It was a go, and six hours of an additional camera were added to their package, but still with several warnings to be as unobtrusive as possible (as we always are).

As it turns out their wedding was amazing. With a second camera we were able to capture their horse drawn carriage exit AND the look on their guests faces, the first dance AND the band as they were singing, the people making toasts AND Alya and Santos' reactions. The video turned out absolutely beautiful, and by the end of the night Santos and Alya were loving the camera! Santos, who had warned Tom (their main videographer) to stay out of the way and told him that he didn't really want video said " I can't wait to see the video. I know you got some great shots."

Alya and Santos - Thank you so much for including us in your wedding day! Thank you for having the intuition to know that you wanted to remember your wedding day for the rest of your lives. It was truly a pleasure to create such a beautiful wedding video for you. Happy, loving couples make warm and sentimental wedding videos. :)

You have read every bridal magazine on the planet, but sometimes
it's hard to decode what your vendors are talking about.
Video happens to be our specialty, so let us help you:

1-Cam/ 2-Cam
This refers to the number of cameras that will be used at your
wedding. When one camera is used you have only one angle.
However, two cameras can capture mom and dad crying during
the ceremony and your faces as you say your vows. The editor
can cut back and forth. Two cameras can also improve audio

Authoring is the process of creating custom chapter points or
"scene selections" on your video. It is fairly time consuming,
but makes for a very impressive way to view your wedding.

HD Video
High Definition (HD) is the future of the industry.
The equipment is still expensive for studios and consumers to
acquire, but it is slowly becoming more affordable. HD is six
times better than a standard DVD.

Don't Hire a Videographer

Why? Why would you get a video? You have pictures. It isn't in your budget. Why pay for something you're only going to watch once a year at most anyhow? Why pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for something you can do yourself with your cell phone!

Tons of couples tell me that they don't want video, its too expensive or they just don't see the point. I get that...not everybody appreciates the same things, or wants the same things for their wedding day, and I'm not personally offended. But, think about this...

Two months after your wedding day you watch your video and laugh at all of the funny things your friends did when you weren't looking and cry when you watch your maid of honors heartfelt toast. You will recount the time it took to plan and all of the hard work did to make the day spectacular. You will remember your amazing cake and your beautiful flowers, how much fun you had and how great everything and everybody looked. Most importantly you will remember that you are loved by so many people and you'll be thrilled to have a video of your wedding day.

Three years from now, you and your partner will watch your wedding video and you will remember how much you love each other and it will strengthen your relationship. You will see the huge smile on your face during your vows before you kissed, and remember with clarity how you glided across the dance floor and you'll be greatful to have a video of your wedding day.

Years after that you may loose somebody that's important to you, maybe a grandparent or parent, but they will be forever captured on video. Trust me, there is NOTHING like watching somebody you love on video after they're gone. Its corny, but if a picture is worth 1,000 words, whats a video worth? How much would you pay to have the ability to see your grandparents whenever you want? Hear them speak? Watch them hug you? For the rest of your life, even after they're gone? Not everybody is so lucky. When you watch that person smile, dance, or say into the camera how happy they are for you. You'll be thankful to have a video of your wedding day.

When your children someday want to hear about what you were like when you were younger, you will pull out your video and show them all the people that matter most in your life. You'll tell them stories and they will actually be able to see who you're talking about (and laugh at our crazy 2009 style). Wouldn't you love to watch your parents wedding video if they had one? Trust me...in this moment, you'll be happy to have a video of your wedding day, and you'll wish you had more.

This isn't even about how I think you should hire us, how we will do an excellent job for you or about how experienced we are.. You should, we will, and we are, but that's not the point. If you're reading this far, I care about your personal memories...and I want you to have a wedding video. Everybody should be lucky enough to find the person they love, have an amazing day to
celebrate it, and rememeber it forever. What if you could watch your grandparents wedding video? Would you thank them or would you throw it away? Would it make having it sit for years at a time unwatched "worth it." If you don't think its worth the cost and effort to record your wedding because it isn't important to you now, think about how important it may be to you later,
to your kids and grandchildren. Whatever you spend on it is worth the cost because it really does last forever.

If you disagree, don't hire a videographer, but the point is that if you want to really remember your wedding you should have it captured on video, by a trustworthy professional that has your best interests at heart. If you don't, I promise, one day you will regret it.

San Diego ABC meeting this afternoon. How cool would it be to
have a picture with lions and birds and monkeys on your wedding day?!?

We stress so much over every detail of every video! We want
everything to be perfect...the shots, the focus, the sound, the picture
quality, your expression, the font, the DVD cover, the lighting, the
music...EVERYTHING. It has been a particularly busy/stressful
month for us and we have alot going on. It is SUCH a relief when we
get thank you notes and emails. It means you like what we did
and we did it right! Not that we're ever surprised (we know we
do a great job), but its nice to have the confirmation that YOU
liked it. Every video is truly a team effort and I love sharing all
the accolades with all of the people that did the work. So, thank
you for your thank yous!It brightens up our entire office. We got
a bunch this week that I'd like to share :)

I LOVE this wedding video! We shot their ceremony with two cameras and reception with one and edited the final version highlight style to match such a fun couple. They were married a The Rancho Bernardo Inn September 6, 2008. This hotel is so pretty and I love when we work there. High five to Katie for picking unique music for the video. We don't hear alot of Fergie and Kid Rock in weddings, but it really helped us add a personal touch.

Happy Anniversary! A look back :)

Annie and Mark were married September 27, 2008 at Founders Chapel at USD. We used three HD cameras to capture every second and angle of their vows. It was well worth it! Their reception at The Grand Del Mar was spectacular to say the least.
Wayne Foster Entertainment was absolutely amazing! The fantastic Mary Noble planned a complete fairytale and guests danced the night away.

Rebecca and Barry's Wedding was the first at the
Scripps Forum and it was beautiful! The weather couldn't
have been more perfect, and all of the vendors brought
their best to make the day absolutely fantastic.

Rebecca's parents are long-time clients of ours, but they
didn't decide on video until the very last minute. When
Rebecca's mom saw the footage they were so glad that
they did because she got to see everything she missed!!
She was amazed at everything we captured.

Bridal Show Advice

Its bridal show time!! The Bridal Bazaar is next week!
April 26th at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. We are getting
excited putting together our new HD demo DVD and
updating our website with new samples. I have two
free passes and SEVERAL 2$ off coupons...call if you
would like them.

I found this helpful advice on SDBride.com on how to
best work a bridal show. Here's an adapted version:

BRING YOUR PEOPLE. They can help you cover twice
the ground and offer opinions about the choices of wedding
merchants. (Note: About 30% of fiancés attend, in spite
of what yours may assume!)

PLAN TO SPEND AT LEAST TWO HOURS so you can
visit all the wedding merchants and see at least one fashion
preview. You will kick yourself if you don't: nowhere else
can you get as much done in as short of period of time.

BRING PRE-PRINTED ADDRESS LABELS. Vendors hold
drawings for prizes and it gets annoying to write out your info
101 times

BRING YOUR CALENDAR. You will probably find vendors
with whom you would like to schedule a one-on-one consultation

ARRIVE WITH A PLAN. Know what you are looking
for and have questions in mind. You will save time
and you will see everything that's important to you.

WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES
Think about Disneyland...its sort of like that.

PRINT NEATLY. Prize winners are often chosen
at random from the registration form: make sure
your vital information is legible.

ASK QUESTIONS! The vendors are there to help you.
You are under no pressure to buy from them, so find
out everything you need to know.
